This self-guided course was developed to help early childhood professionals learn about the purpose and benefits of the developmental screening process. This course will explain the rationale for early care and education programs to conduct routine developmental screenings on children birth through kindergarten entry age. You will review developmental milestones and define development screening, recognize the difference between screening and assessment, examine MSDE's guidelines for developmental screening best practices, evaluate MSDE's recommended screening tools, review the stages of the referral process, and learn how to support parents with accessing community-based support to support their child's growth and development.
